- How are the baseball programs organized?
The Little League program has divisions for T-Ball, Intermediate, Minor, and Majors, with both baseball and softball divisions after T-Ball. The team coaches for each division work with a coordinator who represents that division on the Board. The League’s Baseball Commissioner has the vital job of overseeing all the baseball programs through the division coordinators.
We also have a "Team Parent" selected from each team, to help coordinate off-field affairs at the team level. - What is "Little League age"?
To provide consistency in division assignments, Little League rules peg a child’s age as of the next July 31. Thus, when assignments are made in the spring, children who are 10 years old, but have a birthday before the next August 1, have a "Little League age" of 11. - How’s the softball program going?
Great! OYR offers softball programs for girls in the Internation, Minor, Major, and Senior divisions, up to age 16, because of the interest and enthusiasm. Of course, the regular baseball divisions are open to all children. - Do I need coaching or baseball experience to help
on the field?
No. We organize spring clinics to gives coaches ideas for organizing practices and coaching games. Every team needs two or three assistant coaches to help the head coach, and no experience is needed. As long as you like working with kids, you can help on the field. And there’s plenty of committee slots were off-field work, too. - Will a gifted athlete find enough challenge given
the friendly philosophy of OYRLL?
Sure. Our friendly philosophy complements training fundamental skills. We schedule practice before every game to allow structured drills and teaching. In special cases, if a child plays ball at an advanced level, we are flexible in division assignment, so the youngster can "play up."
